Bailey Middle School Band

Dear Wind Ensemble,

Congratulations! We did it!

All of your dedication to one another and your hard work has paid-off. Today you won the Area competition, and were selected by a panel of 5 judges to advance to the final competition.....CCC State Honor Band. State Honor Band is the highest achievement that a middle school band can achieve, and is sponsored by the Texas Music Educators Association and UIL.

The Area competition was comprised of bands from Houston, to San Antonio, to Fredricksburg, through Austin and up to Waco. The Bailey Wind Ensemble CD was selected for first place and Bleyl Middle School from the Cyprus Fairbanks School District was selected in second place and will also represent our Area. The final competition for State Honor Band will take place at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention on Sunday, July 26th. I'm anxious to see how you do at the final competition, and should we be fortunate enough to be selected, the 2009-2010 Bailey Wind Ensemble will be asked to give a grand performance at the Texas Music Educators Association convention next February.

I can't thank you enough for all of the wonderful musical experiences that we shared together last year. I am so pleased that the judges at the Region and Area level have rewarded you for your musicianship, your discipline, and your heart.

Sincerely and with much love,

Bill Haehnel

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PLAYING IN THE BAND?

While learning to play an instrument provides pleasure for students, being involved in instrumental music is an enriching cultural, social and educational experience. A great deal of self-discipline is developed by the mastery of a musical instrument and it provides an emotional outlet for the student. Band is currently the largest elective at Bailey with band students being the leaders in academic achievement, school spirit, and club activities. While the benefits are many, learning to play an instrument is hard work and demands commitment and dedication.

Remember to practice!

PARENTS!!!

Many of you ask....."How can we help?"

The best assistance you can give us is monitoring the 20 minutes of nightly QUALITY practice that every Bailey Band student is required to do.

Strong individual players make a strong band.
